The Lakeside Retreat is on a lake in the interior of British Columbia. It was done for some friends who had a fairly well-developed idea of the house they wanted to build. Both are busy design professionals and had found a wonderful lakeside property a few hours drive from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver.
The house is on three levels and works with the slope of the property allowing for a walk-out Family Room on the lowest level, and a Master Bedroom with Ensuite on the upper level.
In between, the Kitchen, Living and Dining Rooms form one large connected space under a roof that rises to the lakeside view which is revealed with floor-to-ceiling glazing. The space is anchored by a double-sided fireplace which can be experienced from the Living Room as well as from the adjacent balcony. The balcony forms part of a wrap-around deck which provides lake views as well as a wind-sheltered area for sitting and enjoying the hot tub.
