Situated at the southern-most point of Salt Spring Island with views across Satellite Channel to North Saanich and Vancouver Island, this cottage is a modern re-interpretation of a classic ’cabin’, purposefully playing with symmetry, and trading traditional rusticity for a more contemporary feeling. The extensive use of wood both inside and outside in the form of exposed rafters and roof decking as well as millwork, flooring, and siding, takes advantage of the natural warmth of the material while avoiding the tyranny of ‘too much’ wood.

The cottage opens to the waterfront view, and balances potential glare with glazing in one of the end walls and a skylight over the Kitchen area. A partially covered balcony deck provides some shelter on rainy days and extends the living space outside during the warmer summer months. The open space of the Kitchen and Living area is balanced with separate spaces for a bedroom and washroom.
